Spring Hill BoardsCITY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING BOARDS: BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS The City is accepting applications for the Spring Hill Board of Zoning Appeals. Persons interested must be a resident of Spring Hill city limits. The term expires in June 2011. The meetings are held at the call of the Chair. RECREATION COMMISSION The City is accepting applications for the Spring Hill Recreation Commission. Persons interested must be a resident of Spring Hill city limits. The term expires June 2011. The meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30p.m. Applications are available by clicking here or at City Hall, 401 N. Madison, Spring Hill, Kansas. The City also has many selected Boards and Commissions to assist in the affairs of the City. These persons are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Governing Body. Following is a listing of the current Boards/Commissions. BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five (5) members. Four are residents of the City and one is a resident within the growth area of Spring Hill in unincorporated Miami County. All members are appointed by the Mayor by and with the consent of the Governing Body. A member is appointed to serve a term of three years. All members of the Board serve without compensation. The Board of Zoning Appeals has the responsibility to hear and determine appeals from the refusal of building permits and to permit exceptions to, or variations from, the zoning regulations. Meetings of the Board shall be held at the call of the Chair.
CEMETERY BOARDThe Cemetery Board consists of eight (8) directors. The Cemetery Board manages, operates, maintains and improves the cemetery owned by the City. The Cemetery Board of the City is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Governing Body. The appointees must be either a resident of the Spring Hill School District #230 or own one or more cemetery burial lots. Members of the Board may recommend to the Mayor proposed appointees. No person holding any official position with the City shall be appointed a director while holding such office. The directors receive no compensation for such services, except, that the Board of Directors may pay the Secretary such a sum per annum as the Governing Body may fix for his or her services in keeping the records, selling the lots, and other duties devolving upon the Secretary. A member shall be appointed to serve a term of three years. The directors shall have charge of and supervision over the Spring Hill cemetery, with exclusive power to expend cemetery funds in maintaining, caring for and improving said cemetery. Meetings are held at the call of the Chair.
CODE BOARD OF APPEALS VACANCIES The City of Spring Hill is accepting applications for creating the Spring Hill Code Board of Appeals (CBOA). The Board is established in order to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the code official relative to the application and interpretation of the “Spring Hill Building Code” Edition 2007. This Board consists of seven members and two alternates appointed by the Governing Body of Spring Hill, KS. Individuals from the following professions or backgrounds shall be considered for appointment: Registered Design Professional who is a Registered Architect; or, Registered Engineer in the State of Kansas; General Contractor holding a current Contractors License within Johnson or Miami County; Electrical Contractor holding a current Contractors License within Johnson or Miami County; Plumbing Contractor holding a current Contractors License within Johnson or Miami County; Mechanical Contractor holding a current Contractors License within Johnson or Miami County; Citizen residing within Johnson or Miami County. The Board shall meet for a regular meeting once annually, or at such other time as may be determined by the Board. Special meetings are held at the call of the Chairman. GREEN BOARDThe Spring Hill Tree Board consists of not less than three nor more than nine members. Members are appointed by the Mayor by and with the consent of the Governing Body. Terms of the members are for three years. Members of the board serve without compensation. It is the responsibility of the board to study, investigate, counsel, develop, annually update, and administer a written plan for the care, planting, culture, and removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, streets, alleys and other lands owned or managed by the City. Such plan is presented annually to the Governing Body and upon its acceptance and approval, constitutes the official comprehensive tree plan for the city of Spring Hill, Kansas. The Board, when requested by the Governing Body, shall consider, investigate, report, and make findings and investigations regarding tree issues within the City. Meetings of the Board are held at the call of the Chair.
PLANNING COMMISSIONThe Planning Commission consists of nine (9) members, except that the commission may contain more than nine members if necessary to meet the requirement of state law that any extraterritorial area has two representatives. The commission contains two (2) members from the area designated as the Spring Hill Growth Area in unincorporated Miami County and one (1) member from unincorporated Johnson County. All appointments are for three (3) year terms. In the event of vacancies, the appointments shall be for the unexpired terms. Members serve without compensation. As a primary function, the Planning Commission has the responsibility for the preparation, adoption, and recommendation of a long range Comprehensive Plan to guide the future physical development of Spring Hill. The Planning Commission hears applications for zoning changes, site plans, preliminary and final plats, conditional uses and reviews the capital improvement program. The Planning Commission makes recommendations on these matters to the Governing Body. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7:30 P.M. in Room 15 of the Spring Hill Civic Center, 401 N. Madison.
RECREATION COMMISSION The Recreation Commission consists of five (5) members. The Commission contains two (2) members appointed by the Governing Body, two (2) members appointed by USD 230 and one (1) at-large member. One (1) member of the Governing Body and one (1) member of the Board of Education act as ex officio members and act as liaison between their respective bodies. Members of the Commission and the ex officio Treasurer of the Commission serve without compensation. The Commission is responsible for administering the business and affairs of the recreation system in accordance with K.S.A. 12-1922 et seq. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month, commencing at 5:30 P.M. in Room 18 of the Spring Hill Civic Center, 401 N. Madison.
