Broadband Task Force seeking input from residents, businesses

workspace 1

The Broadband Task Force wants to hear from you. Two surveys were created — one for residents and one for businesses — to gather input on the current Internet situation and the future of Internet of Spring Hill. The resident survey has 15 questions and takes about four minutes to complete. The business survey has 17 questions and takes about five minutes to complete.

The Task Force was formed in January 2017 and began work immediately, meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. In October, the seven-member group began working with CTC Technology and Energy, a consulting firm hired by the City to conduct a fiber feasibility study in Spring Hill. A feasibility study seeks to accomplish two goals: Is the idea possible, and should you move forward with it?

Throughout the months of November and December, CTC presented cost estimates and a financial analysis of three fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) models. Through January and early February, the Task Force will develop their recommendation for fiber in Spring Hill. A final presentation from CTC is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Community Center, 613 S. Race St. The Task Force will meet for discussion Feb. 1 and then meet for a work session with the City Council to present their recommendation Feb. 15.
